If you go into a Starbucks today wearing a "I Voted Today" sticker you can get a free large brewed coffee. Ben and Jerry's will give you a free scoop of ice cream. Krispy Kreme has free donuts. I'm sure there are other give aways for those who excercise their responsibilities as citizens.
We're so lazy and so disinclined to take responsibility for our own governance that we have to offer special inducements to get folks to go vote. Or are we? Reports are that this year will see a record turnout in the electorate. Gee, do you think maybe having candidates who are a little more qualified than tweedle-dum and tweedle-dee energizes people? Do you think presenting clear visions for who are and can be as a nation will cause folks to respond? Gosh, who would have ever imagined that. May George Stephanopolous and Karl Rove be marooned together in an old leaky lifeboat. Power to the people, not the campaign managers!

I didn't bother reading how that turned out, but it was illegal for Starbucks to make that offer. I was hoping they'd arrest a bunch of snobby double mocha types.
