Will Conservatives Kill The American Dream

Nobel Prize winning economist Joel Mokyr's book Culture of Growth - The Origin of the Modern Economy seeks to explain why Europe and not China, India, or Japan experienced unprecedented economic and scientific expansion in the 18th and 19th centuries.

At the end of the 16th century, Mokyr points out that all four of these cultures, along with the Muslims, had very similar technology available to them - movable type face printing presses, ocean going vessels capable of long journeys, agricultural knowledge, scientists.

It seems the institutions of those areas were more interested in maintaining their positions of power by keeping the status quo intact than rocking the boat with new concepts or ideas. And they  were very successful at stifling the intrusion of independent thought.

I wonder if there were hats with slogans like MAGA is fond of for sale in the marketplaces?
