Some Big East humility and pride

OK. So UConn and Villanova spit the bit in the Men's Final Four.
I don't know if the Huskies would have faired much better against UNC than MSU did.

But how about the women's tourney? Both finalists were from the Big East and Geno's team was ready to paste whatever opponent was rolled out in front of them. Great job, ladies. And that man can coach. Which no one is denying anymore.
I heard it said that Pat Summit is getting the Huskies/Volunteers thing back on track. Good. I look forward to seeing how it goes.

When renewing the Tenn/UConn series was broached with Summitt during the pre-game show at the the Women's Final she didn't deny it, but responded in a way that suggested that if she has any say in the matter it won't happen. But then during the game when the announcers were genuflecting before her reputation they said it was back on because Summitt will do whatever needs to be done to grow the women's game and she knows this is important for them.

All I can do is read between the lines of the information and mis-information we get from the media, but my take is that whatever caused the series to be dropped has not been resolved but the AD's and the NCAA want it back. And Geno wants it. And since he's the king right now she's forced to suck it up and renew.

What's amazing to me is how grounded the players in the top programs seem to be in spite of the immense egos of their coaches. Summitt and VanDerveer have never gotten over that men have invaded the party, and Geno is incredibly abrasive in his know-it-all South Philly persona. Makes for great soap opera and ink, but sure hope it doesn't turn into Pitino/Callipari/Williams/Coach K type thing where the coaches get so bigger than life that there's no dealing with them.
