Anyone but Oprah...

Alright, now i face a real quandry. i like barak obama, i like his wife and i like the manner in which he has conducted himself. i think the issues he has spoken about are easy ones to pick sides on and will be difficult to flesh out with actual plans. were he to become the nominee for President, it would be interesting to watch how the pros of the party try to manipulate him and whether he would have the conviction and political sense to resist their urge to move him left. John Kerry couldn't do it.

but i noticed this morning that the news is saying Oprah has come out for him. oh dear. i am VERY afraid of Oprah - she has enormous power, knows exactly how to wield it and scares me. while she speaks in glowing terms of protecting families and seeking justice, she may be the biggest threat to american men on the planet today. forget about Taliban fighters or some Saudi hiding in a cave or even the Iranian President. we need to keep an eye on this lady!

All I could think of immediately was the O.J. verdict - I was standing in the middle of Times Square when they announced it & it was shocking. Thousands of people jammed in waiting for the verdict & almost without exception all the whites had their mouths agape & all the blacks were cheering & dancing - educated business people. In case just having the people who would vote for B.O. just because he was black wasn't scary enough, people who will blindly vote for him because Oprah said to. You know what happens if she touts a book, even if it's found out to be totally without merit later on. Too late, sold millions and millions. I just hope that most of the mindless cattle will not register, since half of the smart people don't.

What! Rat - You're hoping people don't register? That means you won't let them vote. You elitist Republican you! But we Democrats get the last laugh on you. For presidential elections we're working to change the laws so you can register and vote all at once. Without a picture ID. Just sign a piece of paper that says that you are who you say you are. Which we say insures that elections will be fair and honest. Have trouble getting to the polls? We've fixed that too. Just log onto a computer and we'll let you register and vote from the comfort of your home. And we all know the internet is totally secure, so there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that there will be any vote fraud associated with all of this.....

You want scary. Now THAT's scary. Never mind Oprah, the candidate with the best amoral geeks wins!

No, I am just hoping that people who don't even research any of the issues or the candidates and will merely vote for someone because Oprah said to won't register. Everyone else, you know the 50 plus percent of eligible voters should register. I post on it often, including today. It's amazing how many professional successful people I know who don't register. Pathetic. As soon as people rant on pilitics, I ask them if they voted. If not, I tell them to shut the hell up since they are part of the problem. But that's just the elitist in me.

You should rent "Bush's Brain" - it's a great behind the looks at Rove and his questionable (at best) methods.

I guess my touch in cheek humor didn't come across very well in type. I'm with you on 2 points.

1. I don't want to listen to the rants and complaints from those who can't make the effort to be a part of the process.

2. It doesn't bother me that people who spend zero time working on understanding the issues don't vote. Or that people who can't be bothered to follow the simple steps it takes to be a registered voter aren't allowed to vote.

Voting is a privilege granted to us as part of our citizenship. It's up to us to make the best use of that privilege. Flip side: it's also our RIGHT as a citizen, so don't anybody go messing with it! I say people convicted of crimes related to voting fraud should serve double the average sentence given to black crack addicts!
