The times have already changed...
A few weeks ago, I attended the Presbytery meeting for Grace Presbytery. Presbytery meeting are regional gatherings at which the governing body of my (denomination conducts its business. Among the items dealt with at this meeting was the decision to close a particular church and whether or not to pursue the sale of the property that congregation had been meeting in for the past 100 years. There was the presentation of those persons considering and seeking affirmation of their perceived call to become ministers of Word and Sacrament (in our denomination, one must be received into such positions through a vote). We had a worship service conceived and led by young people (high school age).
But the time that resonants in my mind was the presentation or talk by a woman named Jill Hudson, who has authored a book titled When Better Isn't Enough.
The book presents her ideas on why mainline churches are failing in their efforts to maintain viability for younger members. Based on her talk, I recommend it highly.
I'll try to get some of my thoughts are her talk and the issue organized and posted. Enjoy today, eh?

I laughed at the news this week that the Catholic Schools are in dire financial trouble & closing all over the place. If the Catholic Church doesn't have enough money to bail them out, then that is the worst run business in the history of mankind. One school in particular was told it had to raise $1,000,000 within a very short time frame or else the local die-o-see (I cannot think how to spell it correctly) would close it down. Unreal. Take take take. I really cannot wait for the day that politican have the balls to tax churches and other religious groups.
