The high price of gas...

is starting to come into play.
W & Co. will all say nothing is wrong, times are good. Or that the "slowdown" is more related to the hurricanes than anything else. Alan Greenspan has been telling the truth (in a muted way) but Karl Rove doesn't like bad news, so the White House ignores it.
BUT things are starting to show up around the economy that whispers problems for the middle class.
Do you think GM wanted to give away profits by selling cars for the employee price? More likely cars weren't selling so they had to do something.
Do you think that teenagers and twenty-somethings stop going to the movies because nothing good is coming out? I don't think so.
Let's see what the earnings reports are for Chili's, Friday's, Applebee's and all the other "family" restaurants are when they come out. Do you think we stopped getting hungry?
Man, it's been a long four years of feeling Dick Cheney's hand in my pocket looking for loose change. Guess what Dick? You took it all.
Only four more to go...

Good point.

The oil industry is so confusing. What is the price of a barrel today? I just know we will see it hit $80, but I am a pessimist.

Seriously, these gas prices to have a ripple effect when most households have no savings and there is no wiggle room, for lack of a better term. With your city possibly being the worst place in the nation for no wiggle room, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Several months ago, I was wondering whether it would be Ford or GM to file chapter 11 first. I think we could see GM in 11 in the next five years.
