Life is Better; Life is Worse

Jim Wallis of Sojourners magazine has a book out about faith that has a subtitle Why the Right is Wrong and the Left doesn't get it. Now I've just run across an op-ed that shows the same thing about economics.

I'm telling y'all: we need a centrist third party or things are gonna go down the tubes. The US will be exactly as one writer of a letter to the editor of the Courant said; a place where those who have are educated and privileged live behind gates with security, and the rest live lives of desperation scraping out an existence.

a new book i started this morning.

Grace Unknown: The Heart of Reformed Theology by R.C. Sproul
I had this question come up in the planning sessions for the Men's Retreat a couple weeks ago. It came up more in my mind than in the discussions and so I needed an answer. A good friend in our small group at church has loaned me the book.
One of the earliest statements in it that I found provocative is this (paraphrased by memory) - Theology can be described as the study of God while religion is more the study of man.
THAT"S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT!! People screw up God.....
More on it later as I get deeper into it. Of course you can just skip these posts ;-)

The Gulley

Some of you may have read my earlier story about The Gulley and our sliding experiences in the winter. I came across this picture today and thought a visual might help. Those trees on the right hadn't fallen so many years ago...it was just a nice steep descent toward the lake.
