¿Cuál es su cerveza preferida?

I promised Mexican beers for the next round, so here goes.

It's only been recently that some of the less well known brands have made there way north to Connecticut, so I have to admit that what I'm drinking when it comes to south of the border brews is comparable to drinking Bud or Miller. The only difference, I think, is that beer in these other countries, even when mass produced by major breweries, is still of a higher quality than that in our national brands. Enough said.

Most common Latin brew in my fridge: Corona. I tend to like lighter beers, served ice cold. Tecate and Dos Equis when I'm looking for something a little fuller. I've discovered Modelo and Superior are now readily available up this way so I'll have to give them a try. I suspect they're to Corona and Tecate (Mexico's Bud and Miller) what Michelob is to Bud. Saw a Brazilian beer, Brahma, that looked about right, but didn't get a chance to try it. Maybe next month.

OK, borderland buddies, since everything we hear about up here is from one of the two big Mexican brew giants, what do you have for good, independent Mexican brews? Or something from a little farther south - Guatemala? Panama maybe? And no, Panama Red is not eligible for inclusion on this list.

New Music Monday Wednesday Edition

Seems like it's always Wednesday before I get around to thinking about posting something for New Music. Heard Jenny by I'm From Barcelona off the Let Me Introduce My Friends cd on college radio this morning - you might want to give a listen. Or not. It was almost quirky, definitely sugary, and yet not quite pop.

An Amazon reviewer kind of got it right.
"Let Me Introduce My Friends" is basically pop for people who like bands with a slightly sugary sound, but a pleasant melody as well. "Let Me Introduce My Friends" is basically all sunshine, spring grass and childlike fun -- very charming.

I don't know about the charming part, but listening to this group made me try to remember why it was that we listened to the Incredible String Band almost on a regular basis...

Texas gets it right sometimes...

So this guy comes home at night and discovers his wife inside another man's truck parked in his driveway. It is clear that things of a sexual nature are taking place. The wife notices her husband and begins crying rape. The surprised truck owner tries to drive away, but the husband, acting to protect his wife, shots and kills the driver. Initial police reports include the wife's claim that she was being raped. Turns out, she had invited her lover to come by for a tryst which the husband interrupted.
The wife has been indicted on manslaughter charges. The husband was not charged with murder, which the police had arrested him on.
While the rest of the country might consider this strange, it sounds like justice is being served to my ears....
