The New People

Does anyone remember that TV show? The title is a link to the synopsis; basically it was about a group of young people whose airplane crashed on a deserted island. They had to deal with setting up laws and a society without hope of rescue. Does this sound familiar?
When I saw the first episode of Lost, I thought I had seen it before. Finally I was able to find this link.
If I'm not mistaken, it premiered the same night (Sept. 17, 1969) as The Courtship of Eddie's Father, which was followed by Room 222, then The New People.
I was 10 years old then. There was some good TV then, although I had a crush on Julia. My first MILF...

Poor or Immoral?

Is this the poorest person in Tuscaloosa?
Until the end of April, this was my daughter's roommate in Alabama.
When she (or her parents, more accurately) stopped paying rent and they were served an eviction notice, my daughter moved out.
But she continued to make the rent payments for the apartment, since she had committed to do so through the end of the lease (July 27th).
Last week, my wife traveled to AL to put the apt back into original condition (repaint the walls, clean the oven, etc) in order to have the security deposit returned.
It turns out they haven't paid for July yet, and there are late fees on the account.
My wife left Sat AM and drove back to Texas. About noon, our daughter called her to let her know she heard from the roomie. The roomie has not actually been living there; she has been back home in the Atlanta area. It seems Roomie's parents had gone to the apt and were upset to discover that my daughter had removed the washer & dryer they had purchased in partnership.
Daughter advised Roomie that they were "insurance" in case Roomie skipped.
Guess what?
Roomie's 'rents have cleaned out the rest of Roomies belongings and did not repaint. They also have not contacted the leasing office and there was a notice on the door this morning from Alabama Light & Power seeking payment (that utility was in Roomie's name). Daughter went to the apt w/site mgr for a walk through prior to turning in her key.
It is also reputed that Roomie's car was repossessed in January. Daddy paid the car off to ransom it from the repo lot.
Daddy is on disability. They have moved the past three summers (but are always in very nice houses <$300K & up>). Daddy never drives his own car to visit Roomie - it is always a borrowed vehicle. His cel number changes like my underwear and they were upset when they learned Roomie was reimbursing Daughter for her utilities with a check. That changed to cash IMMEDIATELY.
One final kicker - turns out they possibly forged the signature of Grandpa on the lease as the co-signer. Grandpa supposedly passed away last month, but had told the apt mgmt company he knew nothing about the lease and he hadn't left Brooklyn in years.
So, do you think they are broke, dishonest, Russian Mafia or otherwise trying to be "off the grid"? Help me out here, Rat. You have connections in NYC?

The Encyclopaedia of Stupidity

So I'm listening at lunch to the Glen Miller Show on our local PBS station and hear Mr. Miller interviewing Matthijs van Boxsel, author of The Encyclopaedia of Stupidity. What was interesting to me is hearing stupidity discussed as "its own force, like beauty, intellect and athleticism." In other words, stupidity is not solely for those lacking in brain power. The author argues the opposite, in fact.
"No man is intelligent enough to recognize his own stupidity," was one of the statements he made. Hindsight is a modifier of this, though and we can often look back and see our stupidity.
I plan to read the book; he was quite entertaining. But my question is this:
What is the stupidest thing you have done? (Rat, you can't say move to LA, you've already used that on your own postings)
My answer tomorrow. There are so many to pick from, I'll have to think about it...
